The University of Alabama Dance program is housed within the Department of Theatre and Dance within the College of Arts and Sciences. The program is designed to provide a well-rounded education that develops concrete skills in performance, choreography and production, and instills an appreciation of the role that dance plays in history and human culture. Accredited by The National Association of Schools of Dance (NASD), the UA Dance program delivers high quality technical training in both classical and contemporary techniques from a faculty that boasts extensive professional an academic expertise both nationally and internationally.
Recently ranked 15th in the nation among private and public universities, the UA Dance program offers a degree track that is designed to educate the student as a generalist in dance studies. Students follow a course of study essential to the field of dance, including ballet, contemporary, jazz, dance history, pedagogy, dance composition, dance for the camera, lighting and sound design and anatomy. BA candidates also enjoy the flexibility to pursue other areas of study, including a minor or an additional major in a field of study other than dance.
