Julia K. Gleich is a Brooklyn-based choreographer and teacher with over 25 years experience in university dance education including at the University of Utah and Manhattanville College, then 15 years in the UK at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, and London Studio Centre where she was Head of Choreography. She has worked in Europe, Japan, and Hong Kong as a choreographer and teacher and currently teaches ballet at Peridance Center in NYC, specializing in intro ballet and adult beginners. Her contemporary ballet company, Gleich Dances, has received critical notice in the New York Times, Village Voice, Brooklyn Rail, New Criterion, and dancelog.nyc. Julia was the recipient of an Arts Council England Grant in 2013, a Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Utah 2014, a Choreographer Observership with English National Ballet 2016, and produces and choreographs for the annual CounterPointe program for Norte Maar in Brooklyn now in its 9th year. She writes about dance and ballet with colleague Molly Faulkner with forthcoming chapters in the Oxford Handbook of Contemporary Ballet, and in an anthology for Intellect Books (Re)Claiming Ballet. In addition to being a dancemaker, Julia helps fund her creative work as a partner with curator Jason Andrew, in Artist Estate Studio, LLC, managing studios, inventories, and archives for artist and estates including The Elizabeth Murray Trust.
